Baseball Stat Bloggers Take Themselves So Seriously Sometimes You Just Have To Gag

I find Chad Moriyama's baseball blog useful. Writing an ongoing blog takes skill and fortitude.Chad provides information you sometimes don't get elsewhere. And he's part of the team at True Blue LA which I find to be the most useful Dodger news site there is.

But Chad is a Stats Guy through and through. I wonder if he's ever stood up and read out loud what he writes. It can sound really silly sometimes. It's baseball for gawd's sake. Don't Suck The Life Out Of It. For example here's Chad writing about the notion of trading for Aramis Ramirez. I think. Take a listen:

Ramirez has hit .263/.341/.471/.812 so far in 2012 and he projects to improve on that a bit at .274/.341/.484/.824. Uribe and Kennedy are about average defensively, while Ramirez is well below average, bordering on poor. There’s a five to ten run gap on defense that Ramirez will have to make up, and that he does. For the rest of 2012, Ramirez projects to be about 20-25 runs better offensively than the combination of men he’s replacing. If you buy into his splits, which for his career have him ~60 OPS points higher in the second half, the disparity could be even more significant. Also, despite being 34, his peripherals show little sign of decline.
A bit painful but perhaps not overly terrible for a 3-4 WAR player, even one due to regress because of age. Ramirez would basically have to be worth around 7 or 8 WAR to make it work, and he figures to be in the neighborhood of that figure.

Damn Chad I don't know why they even play the game. They should just call you for the final standings and statistics. I feel like calling your family, driving up to Canada and having a giant Intervention. You know, make you watch a game without a computer or handy reference book. E-N-J-O-Y the great game of baseball. Have your family talk normal people talk during the commercials. Maybe grill a Dodger Dog or two. Go out and play wiffle ball with the neighborhood kids.

Tragic Illness is another one. THEY JUST CAN'T HELP THEMSELVES. I have an image of the stat bloggers wearing a Doctor's coat, stethoscope dangling, multiple monitors, flipping back and forth between screens. BR, FanGraphs, MLB trade rumors. Making notes. Not actually watching the game more like staring at a ticker tape of stats going by. Check this one today from Mike P:

I have to admit, as much as I love what Ronald Belisario‘s done, I’m terrified about relying on him, and that’s not just because of his obvious demons – it’s hard to believe a .145 BABIP lasts forever.

Nope he just can't enjoy the Belisario resurgence. Has to throw in the friggin BABIP reference although it means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I don't know why. Make themselves feel important or just sour -however little - what a fantastic run Mr. Crazyman has had.

The Grantland Weekly Power Poll. The word regression is used so i'm sure everyone will like it.
